A shoe store has moved from its longtime home in the Nittany Mall to a new location across the street.
Shoe Dept. Encore opened on March 28 at 319 Benner Pike, in the former Party City location at the Benner Pike Shops. Party City closed last fall.
Manager Denise Sprout said a Shoe Dept. store had been located in the Nittany Mall since the 1990s, operating in a smaller space before moving to its last location at the west end of the mall. The Benner Pike location is one of two Shoe Dept. Encore stores in the State College area, with the other at 221 Patriot Lane in the Trader Joe’s Plaza.
“I think they saw the store in the mall wasn’t performing as well as the others,” Sprout said.
Business has been “very good” since opening at the new spot, Sprout added.
The Benner Pike store is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
